F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) is a FPS game designed to scare the living daylights out of you as much as an alarm clock scares the daylight in. Unfortunately on that note it fails miserably, I doubt anyone will even twitch at the scare tactics in this game. What it does have to offer is very hard and rewarding gameplay. I was never one to pay attention to plot lines, so don't take me very seriously on plot, but as far as the FPS element goes, this game rocks. If possible play it on PC, I'm not sure if it's a PC only game though, so you may be able to play it elsewhere. Here are some of its better features.
Sweet Physics Engine if you have the CPU to run it. If not then it supports physics damping to help low-level CPUs like mine.
AARAI-Awesome Adaptable Retentive Artificial Intelligence- This game learns from you very quickly. They never forget who you are, and when you learn new tricks, they can learn them as quickly as you can use them. Long story short, if you pwn them up close with your shotgun, they will learn to snipe with their assault rifles, and god help you against the actual snipers. If you snipe them a lot then they will stay in cover until you come to them, and you can't outwait a computer, this is where grenades come in handy.
Besides having its adaptable AI, this game by default has a store of real-life military tactics to use against you that it pulls randomly. When you replay a level you may know how many enemies are on the level, but their squads could be anywhere from Green Beret to Delta, I was unfortunate enough to get attacked by a green beret squad, and Delta squad at the same time...barely made it out of that.
Enemies-There are a bunch of enemies in this game, and their very fun and challenging to fight, I particularly enjoy the fighting the military squads, but other enemies include ghosts, heavy soldiers, a pyrokinetic little girl, and once I got jumped by the bad robot from the the first robocop movie. Also watch out for the cybernetic ninjas in the Metal Gear Solid Stealth suits. They'll wait until you unequip your shotgun, and then drop on you like the hammer of god at close range, and quickly fade back into the shadows. Luckily they seem to prefer one-on-one combat.
Graphics-This game actually has some pretty sweet graphics, but once again this is a feature that needs a higher end graphics card and CPU.
I didn't get to finish this game before I had to OSR my computer, but I will soon reinstall it, and finish, hopefully I will know by the end why Military guys, ghosts, ninjas, and robots are under the command of a pyrokinetic little girl. If not, then I guess I'll have to get the expansion.
