UWF had a mostly tech auction today, and I walked away with the following:

2 Dell Power Edge 2600 Servers (One for the office and one for me) --- $62.50 (for both, and work will pay me back for.)
3 APC Uninteruptable Power Supplies --- ($5 each, but one is for me and I won't ask work to pay but $10 -- or I may end up just keeping them all and paying for them out of pocket)
1 Parker Vision CameraMan VAC-2007-A1N --- $5 (bought this on an impulse hoping to trade it somewhere for something worth while or turn it for a bit of profit.)

Sadly the servers do not have hard drives...
When I have more money I'm looking to buy either a few of THESE Hard Drives (http://www.serversupply.com/products/part_search/pid_lookup.asp?pid=93595) or (if I have less money than I'd like) a few of These Hard Drives (http://www.serversupply.com/products/part_search/pid_lookup.asp?pid=62801) to put in my server, which I'll then use for Awesomeness such as Minecraft and WoW. I can hold up to six HDDs in my current assembly.

With the drives I've listed above, even with all six drive bays full I'll never reach 1TB of storage, but the cheapest I can find the 1TB drives for is $255 which is a lot to fork out (more than I have, to say the least). But if anyone is feeling generous (http://www.serversupply.com/products/part_search/pid_lookup.asp?pid=130767) I'll supply my address for the shipment of any HDDs listed in this thread, lol.

I take it what makes them special is the enclosure. Can you not buy one and replace the hard drive inside the enclosure with another standard 3.5-inch hard drive?

Although I could be totally wrong about how they work and probably am.

Server Hard Drives do not use IDE or SATA ports for their Data like standard HHDs do: They use a port called SCSI because it allows for two special benefits:

Faster Disk RPM (faster read and write speed)
HotSwap (meaning they just pop in and out so I can change HDDs have easily as you might change thumb drives, without ever having to shut down the server).

vicious, when my paycheck comes in friday i can send you 60 bucks through paypal. as long as my bank doesn't throw a fit like usuall. if they do i will send u a money order and your welcome to get the server running, that way we have something until red death is complete in july =) even then if its easier running at your place, ill just help here and there to get a new drive, but i can help with 60 bucks a month with that server, pending that it stays online and works. =) off to work. i wil post later on

Appreciated but don't do paypal, lol -- I seem to have somehow severed the connection between my paypal and my email prior to forgetting my paypal password. Until this can be resolved I'm a shade on the S.O.L side, lol.

But if you're serious and you want to do it, then you can just order through serversupply and have it shipped to me. But $60 is a lot to ask of anyone this day and age, so it's probably for the best that everyone just hold on to their money. I'll get a drive for this thing eventually, I just need to get some money together (I get paid every Friday, and I should have a bit left over two weeks from now so I might just do it then).

well, ill wait till my next check witch is on the 2nd of june, givng me the moeny to get red death done and over with, if u dont have it done by that date, ill get one for the drive. im still planning on using an at home server. but i am awaiting AMDs bulldozer.. there specs were leaked today and im still drooling. 95w TDP for the BD x8 core at 4.2 stock speed and the 4 core turbo mode for gaming is at 5.5 and u can still OC this thing under air cooling, since i have my new water system in, i can push this thing to 6.5 by the end of summer.. its going to be an amazing folder and a great gaming rig
