View Full Version : I think i screwed up...

well, here is how it started, last week on my day off i decided to go into the other room which is full of all the things we have yet to unpack, mainly because we dont plan on living here for a long time and we dont feel the necessity of unpacking and then a few months later packing up again, and go through all of that stuff. In the midst of my going through boxes of old cd's and albums and books i notice a screwdriver, one that doesn't have a magnetic bit, so i think, well isn't this a nice time to go to the computer and dust it up a bit since the day before i had noticed the external fan and the fan that sits on top of the processer heat sink has accumulated a surplus of dust bunnies. So I take the computer apart, with my small feather duster, several napkins, and a can of air duster i blow those bunnies to kingdom come... carefully making sure as i take apart the power supply i put it back together not touching anything that seems important, but before that i had taken all of the cables that connect the motherboard to the drives (for some reason for the life of me i cant think of the name of them) so i could get to all the hard to reach places where the dust was more prominent.
somewhere along the lines i had forgotten where ONE of those cables go... so it took a while, but i was finally able to get my operating system running after finally remembering that james had the same problem, one of those cables don't work, so i unplug the cable from the cd drive. Well, now all of my information that used to be on the computer is gone, everything, and the computer is alot slower than it used to be. It is only registering one hard drive, so the information might be on the other drive, but that doesn't explain the sudden drop in speed.
Maybe i should have left it a habitat for those dust bunnies....

One: Never -- And I mean NEVER use a feather duster to clean out your PC. Feather dusters cause an electrostatic reaction as their drug across surfaces, and needless to say this IS bad for your computer. If the need to clean your computer of dust arises and you find yourself without an air compressor, and only a limited supply of canned air -- Use a vacuum cleaner and the appropriate attachment of your choice. Additionally, use of a PC Air Filter such as this one here Link 1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/4-75in-12cm-Washable-Foam-Pc-Case-Fan-Air-Filter-/300434089897?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f34467a9), Link 2 (http://www.pcconnectionexpress.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=353627&SourceID=k232270) are great ways to prevent dust from entering your system. Simply place the filter on your air INTAKE fan(s) (usually located to the bottom of the tower), and it will drastically cut down on your dust. Note: I provided you with two links to the same filter because that filter is the best, and depending on where you live, the shipping from one may be cheaper than the other.
Two: There is a chance, seeing as I don't remember how your computer is setup and configured, that you have two separate Operating Systems on two separate hard drives, and you simply hooked up the wrong one. As for the slowed speed, this could be the result of your hard drive being full of stuff, or just generally slow. Or, worst case scenario, you damaged your CPU or RAM with static while feather dusting. (-.-) I'll have to swing by once I'm not so terribly stranded and take a look at it for you.

Thank god for these commas. I just got finished looking over a few ZPI posts, and my eyes hurt now.

Also, Feather Duster + Computer = BAD. You can completely fry every single part of your computer unless it's a compaq, in that case it will just start running slowly I know my old Compaq survived FOUR feather dustings, those computers may not be good, but they are TOUGH.

My mistake... good thing i only used the feather duster on the outside of the case. It was too big to actually use on the small parts of the inside, i used the air dusting canister, and i was actually scared about that one because i noticed if you hold the can upside down a foamish residue comes out ( i stopped using it as soon as this happened) surprizingly... i am a carefull person when it comes to my computer. However, the bright news is that we got a compaq laptop with an AMD Sempron processer... i like intel.. but choosers can't be pickers... esspecially when the pickings are slim and all those overused cliche's.
by the way, davy and james... we're getting one tire put on the car this week, next payday we'll get another, and then after that we'll be able to get the car legal and then we'll be able to see you guys again, YAY! CIVILIZATION!! I don't like civilization anymore, hate it in fact, but it would be awesome to hang out with both you guys again. I think i'm going stir crazy as for outside communication (walmart employees aren't ones for stimulating conversation, but seeing davy's comment about commas made me remember what stimulating conversation really is.

I'm pretty sure the saying is "Beggars can't be choosers" (seeing as choosers and pickers are the same thing).
As for the car thing: SWEET! This means you can come over here and I can teach you stuff like Aikido, and Computer Stuffs!

hahaha! I feel like that foreign exchange student trying to say something witty, but only getting half the saying correct, or the words mixed up or something. wow... yeah, i can't wait... i've been researching aikido and it seems 'right up my alley'. seriously i think i would love to master that martial art, i've also been wanting to learn jujitsu and wing chun.

Aikido, I can handle. Jujitsu would be something more up Davy's alley as I lean more towards the fast precise movements of Ninjutsu, and Davy has more experience with the grappling and strong-armed elements that play into Jujitsu. As for Wing Chun, that's really a lesser branch of Kung Fu, and as such I never bothered to learn anything about it. But Aikido, Tai Chi Chih, and Tai Chi Chaun are all things I can handle teaching you that you might actually enjoy. I also have a bit of other mixed martial arts experience if you ever decide to go for something a little more high recoil.

we found ourselves downtown today, and i saw a jujitzu school among the numerous coffee shops and bars. I forgot the name of it, but if i ever get enough money to actually make a trip like that twice a week it would be benificial. As for what you can teach me james, i would really love just aikido and some other martial arts that i can mix with it that wont conflict with it... wing chun... thats just a mild curiosity, i saw a video of some man sparring online, on it he nearly broke the guy he was sparring, his ribs... i thought that is awesome.

Exactly.
Since I am resolved to keep my ninja abilities hidden, I'll just affirm my identity with a picture:

I refuse to believe a photographer photographed a ninja, and made it to a development place before being killed. Also even if this photographer was a ninja taking pictures of himself, his quick reflexes would force him to jump out of the picture just before it snapped just in case it was a trap.

Lols. Also, I swear when I saw that picture for the first time yesterday, I thought Tom was an Al-Qaida operative.

Man, i am once again reminded how attention deficit minded we here at infohub are... I was sitting here scrolling down rereading all the posts and how far away off topic that the conversation has drifted.
Vicious88

Yeah, most forums normally hate off topic conversations, but here at infohub we're so desperate for activity I can over look it, lol.

haha, its okay, i actually don't mind the lack of activity on this site... maybe it could use a bit more traffic, maybe five or six more members, but that would be all, more and you start getting stupid people commenting on things. We don't want someone getting upset at something that arthurdent says or that me or davy or you say, and high traffic will increase the chance that we will get someone like that. This is one of the places that is drama free in my life.

It's still, above all else, an invitation only community. Which means we can weed through members like there's no tomorrow, which is a task I don't mind doing.
I wouldn't mind if we had a few hundred members, because I know that by the time they've been around for a couple days, they'll understand how things function around here, and those that can't go with the flow, can just go. *shrug*

agreed. Now how would we get more people to become members to the site. We need a battle plan.lol, i'm kidding, i have faith in this website and i think it has potential. *stares down at the computer like a father staring down at his son, his wide eyes gleaming with hopefullness*

If people get upset, they will leave the site. If they try to get angry and rant about it outside the rant forum,Tom James, or myself will pwn them right out of the site, so there's no worries about upsetting people with things we say.
