All over America, Politicians are holding Town Hall meetings to hear the public's opinion on President Obama's plans to reform Healthcare and instate a Public Option.
Most people have grouped together in refusal of the idea, but very few have bothered to research what they're saying.
Firstly, President Obama has yet to outline a Healthcare plan with any detail at all, saying only that he wants for there to be a public option. Interestingly enough, however, this has not stopped people from saying that the passing of such a bill will keep them from seeing the doctors they want to see. Even more interesting are people who are claiming that the bill is an invasion of privacy and will be used to people's private medical histories publicly available. Adding to the propaganda of ignorance are those people who are screaming that this bill is the begining of socialism in America.
So I would like to clear up a few things really quickly, about this particular bill.
1) Nothing has been outlined about the bill yet, there's not even a draft, however, on Wednesday, President Obama will address the nation and explain the bill in greater detail.
2) The current medical system is, whether you want to admit it or not, in desperate need of reform. Over 67% of American's do not qualify or cannot afford to be covered by private insurers and healthcare options such as medicare or medicade.
3) Let's not try to label this as socialism considering that any of the following qualifies more as socialism than a Public Healthcare option: Medicare, Medicade, Wellfare, WIC, Unemployment Pay, and Social Security (just to name a few). Aside from this, a good 8 out of 10 of the people I see using the word "socialism" to describe this plan, clearly have no idea what it means.
4) Taxes will be increased by a Public Healthcare option, but if you were to take the time to review the number of people who are going to stay under private insurers and do the math involved in calculating taxes over the population as a whole - you'll find the increase will be nominal at best, so there's no need to worry that this is going to cause you to loose all of your worldly possesions.
5) It has never been said or written factually that a Public Option in Healthcare will cause you to loose your right to see a doctor of your choice. Consider if you will, the Obama Administration's "Cash For Clunkers" program - any dealership was able to participate, and the program was a resounding success - do you think doctor's will simply refuse you because you use a public option that will ALWAYS pay them the money they're owed?
6) No one is going to FORCE YOU to be covered by public healthcare. If you would rather go with a private insurer for whatever reason you may have - than you're more than welcome to. The key words here are "Public Option" with an emphasis on OPTION.
With all of that said, I'd like to thank anyone who hasn't bothered forming opinions about something before being educated. And I'd like to ask all of you who are having a hard time tolerating the ignorance of people in general towards this proposal, to please attend your next Town Hall meeting and raise these powerful points.
If anyone can disagree with this points, seeing as nothing has yet to be clarified by the president, then they're too stuburn to really think on an issue, and will ruin this for the people who need it.
