Is loneliness a state of mind
A place where people go,
To escape the cruelness of mankind
And soothe their aching souls?
Now being alone isn't loneliness,
Just how you choose to be.
But lonely is the most alone
That one could ever be.

It erases dreams & takes your goals
To a place so far away...
That the window of escape revolts
And hides from light of day.

The darkness is the worst for pain
And sleep so hard to come.
Like endless days of chilling rain
Just grasping for some sun.

It seems to speak without a sound
And chokes you with its words.
You feel it closing in around,
Your silent cries unheard.

Surrounding you just like a fog
It brings its friend "depressed".
And if you let it, loneliness
Will be your full-time guest.

Silence builds an awful wreckage of a girl
It feeds on loneliness and creates a void
Gray shadows haunt and torment and torture
A woman is stricken and destroyed

There is no sound of laughter or happiness here
The little one has thrown in the towel today
Somber, melancholy moods decay the soul
It is futile to hope and dream and pray

Emptiness builds a home in this woman
In this girl, this child where hollows have bred
A deepening sea of nowhereness consumes
And eats away at every connecting thread

Confusion feeds like a savage inside her,
Leaving nothing considered worthy remains
Destined to walk through life less ordinary
Alone, exiled, different and disdained
